Professional characteristics

Mgr. Zuzana Heinzová, PhD., university associate professor, has worked at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Education, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica since 2000. After completing her doctoral studies, she worked as an internal doctoral student until 2003, then as an assistant professor until 2023, when she was appointed university associate professor.

Her teaching activities focus on subjects such as History of Psychology, Positive Psychology, Applied Psychology, Mediation and Conflict Resolution and Fundamentals of Coaching, as well as subjects that help to link education with practice - Introduction to Service Learning Internship 1 and 2. 

In the area of research, her expertise focuses primarily on the trait construct of emotional intelligence and emotion regulation and flexibility, as well as personal and social responsibility, workplace organisational culture, and transformational leadership in education. She has co-authored four scholarly monographs, six undergraduate textbooks, and more than fifty scholarly studies. Her studies have been published in reputed national and international journals, eight in indexed journals. Her contribution to research and education is also supported by peer reviews and citations, with some of her publications registered in citation indexes and having a broad international response - twenty-two reviews of her work are in citation indexes. Her most significant publication to date is considered a chapter in a collective monograph published by the renowned foreign publisher Routledge Francis & Taylor Group. Zuzana Heinzová was or is an active member, leader, or deputy leader of six domestic scientific projects - VEGA, KEGA, APVV, and six ERASMUS+ projects.

Zuzana Heinzová is distinguished by her excellent teaching and research practice and her involvement in academic and professional communities while continuously contributing to innovations in psychology education and research. She has been an active team member, implementing an innovative service-learning strategy at UMB since 2013. In 2015, as a member of the author team, she received the UMB Rector's Award for the undergraduate textbook Service Learning: an Innovative Learning Strategy. This strategy is also included in the courses she teaches. She has been a UMB ENGAGE Center for Community Partnerships member since 2025.  She provides her expertise as a judge of Engaged Schools awards nationally and internationally in the Uniservitate Global Award.  From 2020-2024, she was a member of the UPPC University Counselling and Support Centre team, where she was involved in psychological counselling. She is a member of the Association of School Psychology and the Board of Directors of the Centre for Volunteering, n.o. in Banská Bystrica. Since 2015, she has held the critical position of the President of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Education. Currently, she is a member of the Academic Senate of UMB.
