Brief characteristics

The symposium of choir singing has been held since 1994, every even year alternating with a similar symposium in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic. It is oriented on Slovak choral music production, composers, conductors, choirs, as well as important organizing personalities and institutions supporting the development of choral singing in Slovakia, music and vocal culture of regional, nationwide and international importance. Furthermore, on the European trends in choral singing and foreign activities of individual nations in the field of choral singing. Accompanying activities of the symposium are vocal concerts of home or foreign choirs or premieres of works by Slovak composers.

The aim of the 13th International Symposium CANTUS CHORALIS SLOVACA is to gain new approaches and opinions, expert knowledge from the past and the present of choir singing, establishing friendly informal contacts between conductors, composers, music scholars and music teachers from different European countries, exchange and the presentation of choral literature, audio media and experience in working with the vocal ensembles. International Symposium is popular with the professional and also cultural public.

This year is focused on the European trends in choir singingchoral production and vocal culture, the position of choral art in contemporary music culture and its places in the musical culture in the new Millennium with a focus on conductors, repertoire, activities, organizations, competitions, awards, etc., prominent personalities in the field of choral singing (composers, conductors and musical ensembles) not only in Slovakia. Symposium program also includes the subject matter of European trends with the contributions of foreign participants, workshops, concerts, knowledge of the musical culture and the history of our region.

Part of the international symposium CCHS 2018 will be also the third Czech - Slovak Conference of PhD students, which aim is to analyze the current trends in theory and practice of music education, which will be held on the 24th October 2018.
