Department of Theology and Religious Education

The Department of Theology and Catechetics is involved in the preparation of students - future preachers, missionaries, catechists, and diaconal workers – which they can apply in their work with churches, schools and diaconal and missionary organizations. Many of the contemporary employees of Evangelical Churches are graduates of the department operating in the Slovak Republic and abroad (Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, as well as other continents - Africa and Asia). The department assists with the training of church workers in order to gain expertise in Christian upbringing and education, mission and diaconal.
The members of the department participate in the creation of publications for students, teachers, religious denominations and the public. Each year, the department organizes scientific theological conferences with an international participation focusing on current events in evangelical theology, mission, catechetic and diacony. It publishes Testimonium fidei bi-annually. Active membership of the teachers in various Christian denominations is one of the important prerequisites for a successful solution to the department's scientific, research and development projects. In the field of foreign relations, it focuses on international cooperation with workplaces of a related nature, especially in the Czech Republic, Romania, Croatia, Germany and the United States of America.
The department, in cooperation with the Evangelical Churches Association, operates a library serving students and the public. From the outset, the library also serves churchmen, including the theological, pedagogical and didactic works necessary for the effective implementation of education in the church.
