Documents to be produced by foreign candidates to begin their habilitation and inauguration proceedings

To begin the habilitation or inauguration proceedings it is sufficient to post one copy of all required items!!!

The candidate will submit a written application with the following supplements to the dean of the faculty:

  1. Opinion from your place of work (written by the department head, or dean in case the candidate is the head of the department). 2 copies
  2. Opinion of your faculty Scientific council on initiating habilitation or inaguration proceedings – extract from their meeting minutes. (This requirement is above-standards, we believe it signals the candidate’s scholarly authority at her/his own institution.)
  3. Habilitation thesis – 4 copies is submitted in the Slovak language.
    A habilitation thesis is:
    • a monograph (a monograph does not count as an essential scientometric criterion) or
    • a monothematic paper with original results, or
    • a set of published scholarly works complemented by ca. 30 pages commentary, or
    • a documentation of a work of art or an artistic performance, or a set of artworks or artistic performances.
  4. Structured curriculum vitae – 3 copies (signed by the candidate) – translated into Slovak
  5. Candidate´s profile – completed form, 30 copies (signed by the candidate) – translated into Slovak
  6. Certificate of university education, 1 photocopy, plus translation verified by notary - 1 copy
  7. Certificate of academic degree, 1 photocopy, plus translation verified by notary - 1 copy
  8. Certificate of research degree, 1 photocopy, plus translation verified by notary - 1 copy
  9. Confirmation of pedagogic experience – 1 copy translated into Slovak
  10. Overview of educational activities and achievements (signed by the candidate’s superior), including: lectures, seminars, workshops, graduate dissertation supervisions, doctoral dissertation supervisions, students’ research activity guidance – 33 copies
  11. List of publications following the structure in the form Criteria for the Habilitation of Docents and the Appointment of Professors of PF UMB (Kritériá habilitácie docentov a vymenúvania profesorov PF UMB) dated 6.11.2008 – 33 copies (signed by the candidate)
  12. List of completed research assignments – 33 copies (signed by the candidate)
  13. List of 5 the candidate’s most significant works in her/his opinion – 10 copies (signed by the candidate)
    Papers in each sublist should be ordered chronologically, including complete bibliographic data (according to Kimlička or the 1998 STN, ISO 690). In cases of team authorship, list authors in an order identical with that in the respective publication; also state your contribution in percentages. It is recommended to give names (following the criteria’s structure) to individual sublists, numbering the items in each of them separately.
  14. Completed form Scientometric Criteria of the Habilitation of Docents and the Appointment of Professors at the Pedagogical Faculty of UMB (Scientometrické kritériá habilitácie docentov a vymenúvania profesorov Pedagogickej fakulty UMB) – 33 copies (signed by the candidate)
  15. Brief and concise profile of most significant academic achievements, prepared and signed by the candidate – 33 copies translated into Slovak
  16. Three topics proposed for a habilitation/inauguration lecture translated into Slovak – 2 copies (signed by the candidate)
  17. Confirmation of coverage of habilitation/inauguration proceedings costs
  18. Candidate will submit the habilitation/inauguration lecture abstract and lecture text in Slovak - 4 copies (send an e-mail copy 1 week prior to the presentation)
  19. Published monographs, books, articles.
  20. The chairperson of the PF UMB Scientific council may demand other materials as appropriate to the specifics of the habilitation/inauguration thesis in question
  21. The translations of all reviews and opinions of the habilitation/inauguration appointive committees must be translated from Slovak to the candidate’s native language and vice versa by a licensed translator at the the candidate’s expense.
  22. A licensed interpreter’s attendance is obligatory at both the habilitation/inauguration lecture and defence.
